Vedic Thai Yoga

What is it?

Vedic Thai Yoga, also known as "assisted" or "lazy man's" yoga, is viewed as a martial art of healing and is reported to manifest instant positive results. Thai Yoga sessions use gentle pressure on energy lines and yoga-like stretching to relax the whole body, working far beneath the surface of the body to affect the deeper layers of the muscles, connective tissue, and skeleton.

The pace of an assisted yoga session is slow, rhythmic, and steady, much like a heartbeat. This rhythm taps into the parasympathetic nervous system to create a sense of calmness and inner peace, allowing both the mind and body to reach relaxation. The practitioner adopts a meditative awareness, adapting every position and technique to the client’s specific needs, routinely modifying treatment to address both acute and chronic conditions.

Why do I need it?

Many of us carry stress, tension, and restricted movement in our bodies without realizing how much it affects our overall well-being. Long hours of sitting, repetitive movement, and emotional stress can cause muscles to tighten and the natural flow of energy to become restricted, leading to stiffness, discomfort, and fatigue.

Vedic Thai Yoga helps restore balance by gently releasing physical tension and encouraging energy to move freely throughout the body. Through assisted stretching and rhythmic compression along energy lines, the practice supports mobility, relaxation, and circulation — helping you feel more open, grounded, and at ease in your body.

How does it help?

  • Reduces emotional stress and physical inertia
  • Relieves chronic stiffness and improves mobility
  • Reduces the frequency of migraines and headaches
  • Helps your body naturally get rid of toxins and waste more efficiently
  • Relaxes the muscles further so that they may regain flexibility and tone naturally
  • Increases blood circulation to facilitate the better flow of oxygen and nutrients to your tissues

Frequently Asked Questions

Vedic Thai Yoga sessions blend exotic stretching positions (asanas) and disciplined breath control (pranayama) with flowing rhythmic compressions using the feet, knees, palms, elbows, forearms, fingers, and toes.

Absolutely. Flexibility is not required. Each session is adapted to the individual, and stretches are gently assisted rather than forced. Sensation can range from gentle to moderately deep, but pressure and intensity are always adjusted to your comfort level. Communication during the session is encouraged.

Unlike traditional massage, Vedic Thai Yoga is performed fully clothed and incorporates assisted stretching, rhythmic compression, and joint mobilization. Sessions focus on improving mobility, energy flow, and overall balance rather than isolated muscle work.

Most clients feel deeply relaxed, lighter in their body, and more open through their joints. Some experience increased energy, while others feel pleasantly grounded or ready to rest.

Vedic Thai Yoga sessions range from 60 to 90 minutes.

You should wear loose-fitting or stretchy clothing that allows the body to move.

No - Vedic Thai Yoga is traditionally performed on a large futon floor mat which I provide. Working on the floor allows me to move freely around the client, utilizing prone, supine, side-lying, and seated positions.

I am a mobile yogi and frequently see clients in their own home. If your home does not have a quiet area with enough open floor space to accommodate a queen-sized mattress, let me know and we can discuss other options!

Vedic Thai Yoga sessions are fully assisted yoga practices that require a one-on-one approach. If you are interested in booking a couples' session or workshop, please reach out so we can discuss details.
